Entry Level Paralegal Chicago

Do you need a certain certification to be a paralegal in Chicago IL?

I have a BFA, but I was wondering what additional training or certification I may need to get an entry level paralegal position. I have never worked in this type of legal corporate setting, but I will do anything to learn and excel.. Thanks..

That depends on your background and the law firm. It sounds like you don’t have any legal background whatsoever, so you should start taking at least some classes so you know what it’s about, legal terminology, procedure, documents, etc. Read ads in your area for paralegals and see what they are requiring. You can take the classes at a community college. A legitimate certificate usually takes a year or two to get.

You should also know Word Perfect because a lot of law firms prefer to use that over Word.

Paralegals work in all kinds of legal settings, not just corporate. You can work for solo practice, government agencies, corporations, small and midsize firms. But you need to have some degree of legal knowledge, unless you want to work your way up from file clerk or receptionist, which a couple of people at my firm have done.

Ignore mailacco, he confuses lawyer with paralegal.

Procedures for assigning power of attorney to sell car in Maryland?

I will be out of town, and I want my parents to have power of attorney to sell my car for me. What are the procedures for getting this? Will there be any fees or tax consequences?

You will need the to have the POA notarized, and include the name of the person (your parent) who is authorized to sign the title, and the information about the car (year make model VIN)

There are no fees or tax consequences, but it will make it more dificult to sell the vehicle. I know that if I am not dealing with the registered owner, I am hesitant to make the purchase.

If you own the vehicle free and clear (no lien) another alternative is to use the gift form (VR 103) to assign the title to one or both of your parents. They can then have a title issued in their name(s) and can sell the car without the need for a POA. No tax is required, the only cost is the title fee which the boy governor raised to $50.00

Legal Advice about apartment application?

I went to apply for an apt with my boyfriend, we were filling out the application and the leaser was being so rude, and acting as if we were dirt. We decided we were just going to apply else where and said thanks but never mind. She then took the applications from us and would not give them back saying it was policy to keep the rejected applications. But since we never actually applied, and no credit was run, how can she just take the paper we were filling out. It had our license numbers, socal security, account numbers, and the whole thing seemed shady. Does she have any right to keep them?

If she supplied the application..she has every right to keep such. Concern over giving out and keeping your info should of been addressed prior to filling out the application.

Motor Insurers Bureau Compensation Claims

Claims going through the UK Motor Insurers Bureau is similar to making a normal claim. Your case will be reviewed by the ruling judge and a decision is then made in regards to liability and how much compensation you should be awarded which will be paid by the UK Motor Insurers Bureau.

MIB was established in 1946 as a private company limited by guarantee for the purpose of entering into Agreements with the Government to compensate the victims of negligent uninsured and untraced motorists. Every insurer underwriting compulsory motor insurance is obliged, by virtue of the Road Traffic Act 1988, to be a member of MIB and to contribute to its funding

The MIB can give compensation to someone who is involved in a motor accident caused by an uninsured driver or untraced driver. If the driver was uninsured, the MIB can pay compensation for personal injury or death and/or damage to property. If the driver has not been traced, the MIB will consider claims for damage to personal property providing the vehicle can be identified.

Normally, the UK Motor Insurers Bureau will make a payment for both your vehicle and any personal injury suffered by yourself. This may also cover loss of earnings and medical expenses, pain, distress and suffering – all covered by the UK Motor Insurers Bureau

Simon Machell, MIB chairman and the director of customer services at Norwich Union, said: “Currently, the fines for having no insurance are often a fraction of the cost of insurance and so some motorists are willing to risk getting caught and fined. But stricter penalties need to be combined with better enforcement and wider use of an improved Motor Insurance Database.”

Scenarios can normally be split into 2 categories

Untraced Motorist – Hit & Run

This is where the other driver cannot be traced. However, in certain circumstances a claim still be made. You should waste absolutely no time in seeking legal advice to get a claim on the way to protect your position.

Uninsured Motorist

This is where the person who you have had an accident with is not covered by any kind of insurance. If it transpires that the driver responsible for the accident is uninsured, you can make a claim to the Motor Insurers Bureau. As long as they can be satisfied that the uninsured motorist is to blame, your claims will be dealt with as would any other claim. The only exception is that they will not pay the first £300.00 toward any claim which does not have an injury.
